How Hybrid AC Works
Hybrid Cooling combines conventional air conditioning with Ice Energy’s patented Ice Bear® energy storage technology, using each when it’s most efficient and cost-effective – saving money and reducing impact on the environment.
The Ice Bear Hybrid Air Conditioning system stores cooling energy during off-peak hours by freezing water in an insulated storage tank. It cools efficiently during the day by circulating chilled refrigerant from the tank to the evaporative coil of a conventional air conditioning system, without the need to run the energy-intensive compressor during peak daytime hours. The ice is then refrozen each night when electricity is cleaner, more efficient and less expensive. During off and mid-peak hours, the conventional HVAC operates as usual.

Together, this unique hybrid system surpasses the overall efficiency of conventional equipment alone and reduces on-peak energy demand from as much as 10,000 watts to less than 300.
Widely compatible with commercial rooftop and split systems from 3-10 tons, the Ice Bear Hybrid Air Conditioner is designed for fast and reliable connection to most air conditioning systems, requiring no modification to your ductwork or structure. The speed and simplicity of installation means there is no interference with your operations and makes upgrading to Hybrid A/C advantageous whether your current system works perfectly or is due to be replaced.
When purchasing new equipment or replacing your current air conditioning system, Hybrid A/C is the smart choice. Rooftop HVAC equipment from leading manufacturers like Trane and Carrier can be ordered with an Ice-Ready option, ensuring easy connection to the Ice Bear unit. And all units come with comprehensive warranties so you can count on worry-free operations.
